Niagara Falls MPP says 4 hours a day needed, gov't says it has increased service
Niagara Falls NDP MPP is demanding the province meet its goal of providing four hours of care, per day, to long-term care home residents.
Wayne Gates told the legislature today 13,200 nurses and over 37,700 PSWs are needed.
He accused the government of where it's spending money. "Will the Premier commit today to stop spending $1-billion of taxpayers money on private staffing agency profits, instead pay nurses, PSW's and front line staff."
Long-Term Care Minister Natalia Kusendova-Bashta said since 2021, the government has increased direct hours of care by 33%.
She added visited two homes in Niagara Falls recently.
"They told me our investments are working, the PSWs are seeing production in the amount of residents that they have to take care of each and every day, which allows them to spend more time with each resident."
