Grant Approval for Welland Hospital

The Ontario government announcing the money to get redevelopment underway, MPP Jeff Burch has pressed for this

A major step forward for the future of the Welland hospital.

Niagara Health says the Ontario government, in its Fall Economic Statement today, has approved renovations to the hospital, and a planning grant for its redevelopment project.

The renovations are in preparation for the opening of the South Niagara hospital in 2028, and the planning grant gives Niagara Health resources needed to support early-stage development efforts, including feasibility studies.

Planning for the redevelopment begins immediately, as Niagara Health works closely with staff, doctors, the government and community partners.

The work in Welland means security upgrades with more cameras, improved infrastructure such as new generator and hot water heating plant, and reduction of triple and quad rooms to single and double occupancy for patients.

Niagara Health adds the Welland Hospital Redevelopment project is a key part of its long-term planning, as well as its and the government's commitment to care close to home.
