Council just voted for the "Niagara-GTA corridor", one councillor noting it's needed with the reputation of Highway 6
Another push by the Town of Grimsby to build a Niagara-Greater Toronto highway system, designed in part to take pressure off the QEW.
Councillor Jacob Baradzeij says Hamilton, Brantford and Burlington politicians support this, just prior to council supporting his motion to pursue this.
Councillor Reg Freake recalls this was tried years ago. "25 to 30 years later, here we are... it's kind of been pushed under the carpet. We've got the GO train, we've got to have the conventional transit system, and we need that corridor up on the south connecting communities across Ontario."
Councillor Baradzeij's idea has it stretching from Niagara to Waterloo and Toronto.
Councillor Nick DiFlavio says it's needed as he drives to Waterloo often. "But we're building a highway in Ontario to nowhere, north of Toronto. We're building highways that there's no clear need for, when we know that Highway 6 has been called the Highway of Death, since I was a child, going between Hamilton and Waterloo."
He added despite the economic importance of Toronto, it's not the only city in Ontario.
