The school received a $5-million and $2-million gift at its 33rd Gala in Niagara Falls Saturday night
A $5-million gift to Niagara College is helping it address the critical shortage of health care workers in Niagara, and beyond.
The school's VP of Advancement Gord Arbeau says it's from the Myhal Family Foundation, one of the largest gifts in the school's history.
He says it'll help expand their applied health building in Welland. "We'll be adding 75,000 square feet, and that's going to directly help develop classroom labs, community spaces for nursing students, personal support workers, paramedics, and all the other applied health."
The school also received $2-million from Keith and Sharon Segal and GuardMe International Insurance, for the school's international field placement program.
"We had over 625 guests, and through the sponsorship and ticket purchases for the event itself, we raised in excess of $300,000. We funded 34 new student scholarships out of those funds."
