Ship in Jordan Harbour deemed a safety hazard

Video posted on YouTube shows the masts being felled yesterday.

The federal government ordered the masts removed for safety reasons on Niagara's famous "Ghost Ship."

The town of Lincoln had tried to convince Ottawa to look into keeping the masts and the ship in Jordan Harbour arguing it had become a tourist attraction for travellers along the QEW.

The ship has been in the harbour since 1997 when its owner, hoping to set up a river boat casino in Niagara, abandoned it in the harbour.

But it has since fallen into disrepair and was the victim of arson a few years ago.
