The Township approved buying fire truck from Winnipeg, avoiding huge tariff
The Township of West Lincoln has dodged a potential $200,000 tariff bullet.
Council has approved buying a new fire truck from a company in Winnipeg, costing $952,000.
Fire Chief Dennis Fisher says including American companies in the bidding process meant potential tariffs after April 2nd. "There's a neighbouring municipality in the region that has a truck almost complete in the US, and they're afraid that they're going to get stung with another $250,000, coming in April, because they won't get it in Canada in time."
Town staff was directed to look at getting the truck shipped on a flatbed, as that may be cheaper than driving it from Winnipeg.
Councillor William Reilly appreciates supporting local. "So, I think the extra perk here is that almost a million dollars that is not going to go to our American neighbours, and hopefully not benefit their current leader and his agenda."
