A $3,500 grant has been awarded to the Lincoln County Humane Society (LCHS) for their Pet Food Bank Program.
The grant was made possible by Humane Canada, and it allowed the LCHS to purchase food directly from the producer, MARS Canada Pet.
MARS Canada Pet then turned the $3,500 purchase of two skids of food into a contribution of 14 skids.
The LCHS had originally intended to provide pet food to 120 local families, but now will be able to help many more.
Since many recipients can't attend the shelter in St. Catharines, the LCHS has partnered with several food banks in Niagara.
The food banks include West Lincoln Community Care in Smithville, Community Care of West Niagara in Beamsville, The Hope Centre in Welland, Pelham Cares in Fonthill and Port Cares in Port Colborne.
Anyone in need of pet food is encouraged to contact the shelter of any of their Food Ontario distribution partners.
