Tony Baldinelli says the federal government must keep mass murderers in max security prisons
Niagara Falls MP Tony Baldinelli is speaking out about the transfer of a high profile killer.
After the transfer of serial killer Paul Bernardo made headlines, the family of murder victim Laura Babcock spoke out, demanding a review of Mark Smich's transfer.
"I am deeply disturbed to see this perplexing pattern within the federal justice system that needs to be quickly addressed," Baldinelli says. "Vile monster criminals like Paul Bernardo and Mark Smich should both be in maximum-security prison for the rest of their lives for the brutal and unspeakable crimes they committed against their victims.".
In 2021, Smich was transferred to a medium security facility, five years after a jury found him guilty of murdering Tim Bosma.
He was convicted in Babcok's death in 2017.
Dellen Millard was also found guilty of murder in both of the cases.
Earlier this month, Baldinelli introduced a motion that would require all mass murderers to permanently remain in maximum security prisons.
He's urging all parties to support his bill, C-342, when Parliament resumes in the fall.
