Long-term care residents in Ontario will soon be able to enjoy more social interactions with friends and family.
Effective Wednesday, June 9th, residents who are fully vaccinated will be allowed to leave their homes for day and overnight social gatherings.
Those with limited mobility or health conditions making outdoor visits unlikely may have one visitor at a time inside the home as well as an essential caregiver.
Residents can also hug their loved ones, regardless of vaccination status, or hold hands with visitors if they have both been fully vaccinated.
As of May 30th, about 97 percent of Ontario's long term care residents have received both shots, with 89 percent of staff receiving at least one dose and 66 percent fully immunized.
