The region says it's working through a $16.5-million overall plan for the year

The Niagara Region is working through its $16.5-million roadwork plan for the year, that includes Lundy's Lane, Ontario Street in St. Catharines, areas in Wainfleet, and Division Street in Welland.

Stephanie Huppunen is Manager of Capital Projects, and says preliminary work is underway for Lundy's Lane, between Garner and Kalar Roads.  "They are scheduled to start milling next week, so they'll be taking the surface off the road, and then shortly after that they'll be doing some base repairs as needed, and then we'll be putting a new surface on that section of roadway."

She says they're adding a new ingredient.  "It's a fibre product that we put in right at the batch plant, and the product is expected to extend the life of the roads, as well as reducing rudding.  You know when you get that noise on the road when you're driving that feels like it comes from grooves."
