The Maid of the Mist has opened for another season on the U.S Side of the Niagara River.
It was late last fall the company replaced two of its aging boats with two new, all electric, zero emissions tour boats, aptly named the Nikola Tesla and the James V. Glynn.
Each vessel is powered by two 3,300-pound battery banks that are recharged between runs at the dock by plugging two high-voltage lines into a charging station for seven minutes.
In an interview last year with the Washington Post, Maid of the Mist President Chris Glynn said “The ride is smooth, and there’s virtually no noise other than nature itself, the sound of the falls. It’s almost like a sailing experience.
