Man Arrested on Warrants Dating to 2016

NRP say St. Catharines man found in vehicle with woman, both had drugs and money

A St. Catharines man wanted on multiple outstanding warrants dating back to 2016 has been arrested.

Police recently began an investigation of the man, and on Wednesday, they say he was observed in a drug transaction.

He was in a vehicle with a woman, he was arrested due to the outstanding warrants, and police found they both had some fentanyl and money.

Later in the day, police searched a St. Catharines home, and found:

  • 76.2 grams of suspected fentanyl
  • $2,090 in Canadian currency
  • 100 oxycodone pills

Police have charged 51-year old Garfield Swaby with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (oxycodone)
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with release order (six counts)

His outstanding warrants were related to property crimes, drug offences, and breaches of release conditions.  He had a bail hearing yesterday, but remains in custody with another court appearance today.

Police also charged Nicole Jean Ley, 45-years old of St. Catharines, with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (oxycodone)
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000

She was released with a May court date.
