Update: Man Charged After Incident Near Bridge

Police closed the Niagara on the Lake area down last week over incident, man surrendered to police roughly an hour later

We have since received an update to this story, from the man charged in this case.

Edgar Lefebvre has written to us saying 2 of the charges, discharging a firearm, and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose were withdrawn by the Crown on June 2nd of this year, while the careless use charge was resolved with a conditional discharge.

He also maintains there were no witnesses that saw him fire a gun, and is concerned the alleged shooting could be established as fact.

A 62-year old Niagara on the Lake man remains in police custody after a shooting last week.

You may recall on Thursday afternoon when police closed down a number of roads in the Queenston Street area, near the Homer bridge, over reports of shots fired.

Roughly an hour after police arrived, a man walked out of a house and surrendered.

Police say Edgar G. Lefebvre has been handed three charges:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Discharging a firearm — recklessness

He had a bail hearing this morning, but was kept behind bars.

Police add there were no injuries during this event.
