The region is working on road safety with less money due to no speed cameras
The Niagara region working with a reduced road safety budget this year now that revenue from speed cameras is gone.
However, Director of Transportation Frank Tassone told the public works committee all red light cameras are staying.
He explained to Councillor Brian Heit as to whether winter weather makes a difference. "We look at all considerations when evaluating the serious collisions and fatalities that happen as a result of collisions. What we've found in our work is that most serious collisions or fatalities happen during the summer months and are most directly tied to speeding."
Regional data shows a decrease in the number of drivers running red lights.
Councillor Wayne Olsen was told there's an education component working with drivers on rural roads for slow moving vehicles.
