Baldinelli says the app is impacting Niagara's tourism sector by causing lengthy wait times at borders.
Niagara Falls MP Tony Baldinelli is questioning the need for the ArriveCan app at international border crossings.
During Question Period yesterday, Baldinelli asked the federal government when the use of the app would end.
He said he spoke with the General Manager of the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority, who expressed concerns that continued use of the app would cause lengthy processing times and delays at the border, impacting Niagara's tourism heading into the summer months.
"These border delays will discourage cross border travel and will continue to adversely impact the hard hit tourism sector in Niagara," Baldinelli stated.
Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino responded, saying the app is an important tool to help curb the spread of COVID-19, and the federal government is continuing to follow the advice of public safety experts.
Currently, travelers entering the country need to submit their information on the app 72 hours before arriving in Canada.
