The NDP's Jennie Stevens, of St. Catharines, would like to see bad landlords held accountable
A local MPP wants to hold what she calls bad landlords accountable, and protect good tenants by closing loopholes that evict tenants.
St. Catharines NDP member Jennie Stevens has co-written a bill that would track applications of abused no-fault eviction loopholes, give more power to eviction laws and hold landlords accountable for illegal evictions.
Stevens says in Niagara there's been a rise of evictions of reliable, long-term tenants, many of them seniors, for no reason other than making a profit.
Her statement adds with a rise in rental rates, there have been more aggressive evictions.
