St. Catharines Jennie Stevens wants students to learn more
As Remembrance Day approaches 2-weeks from today, St. Catharines MPP Jennie Stevens wants more time and recognition given to that day.
She's introduced legislation, called the Remembrance Day Observance Act, 2025, requiring all schools to have a dedicated in-person service on November 11th.
Furthermore, it'll mandate the history and modern significance of Canada's military, including younger and Indigenous vets, be taught.
She says students need more than a PA announcement on the sacrifices past Canadians made.
The legislation also proposes most workplaces give time from 9 to 1pm for employees to go to Remembrance Day services.
