Niagara Centre MPP has written a letter to provincial government opposing proposed amalgamation
Ontario's Municipal Affairs Minister to hear from a local Opposition member about the latest to dissolve the Niagara region.
Niagara Centre MPP Jeff Burch has written to Rob Flack, indicating Chair Bob Gale's request that Niagara mayors respond by March 3rd about forced amalgamation is unacceptable.
He further states strong opposition to the idea of Thorold, Port Colborne, Fort Erie and Niagara on the Lake being swallowed up by neighbouring municipalities, and this must be proven with evidence-based outcomes.
The letter adds there must be consultation, which has not happened, leaving municipalities disrepected.
He further points to what he says is the failed attempt by the province to get rid of the Region of Peel, that resulted in chaos.
