NDP Leader Stops in Niagara

Marit Stiles spoke of health care at Niagara Falls hospital, part of province-wide tour called "All in for Ontario"

Ontario's NDP leader made a stop in Niagara today, on her "All in for Ontario" tour.

Marit Stiles spoke at the Niagara Falls hospital, saying the condition for Niagara is getting worse with urgent care centre closures.

She also addressed hospital worker burn out, and one of her solutions.  "Staff/patient ratios... so, a nurse or other health care worker, need to know how many patients they see.   We need to know as patients that they're not going to be seeing 32 patients, that's what I heard from one nurse today. Other provinces have ratios, they have a maximum number of patients they're allowed to see."

She says she's travelling the province to listen to people since many are struggling.

As for urgent care centre closures, she revealed what happens every time she comes to Niagara.  "People who are telling me the stories of what it means to have those closures, in terms of how far people have to go to get care, and the risk they're having to put themselves and family members through.  It's unacceptable.... the Niagara region is growing."

She says the NDP want to invest so people don't get sick in the first place.

Later in the day she visited a Polish Legion construction site, followed by a gathering with MPP Jennie Stevens.
