PARIS - She's bringing a medal back to her hometown of Delaware.
Alysha Newman won the bronze medal in the women's pole vault yesterday, clearing 4.85 metres and setting a new Canadian record.
She's the first Canadian pole vaulter to win a medal in 112 years. William Halpenny won bronze in the men's event during the Stockholm Games in 1912.
Newman is 30-years-old and she was born in London and grew up in Delaware, but she's currently living in Toronto.
As of 5:45 a.m. today, Team Canada had won 19 medals at the Paris Olympics with six gold, four silver, and nine bronze. We're ranked 11th in the overall medal count.
