Niagara Agriculture Gets Financial Help

A $1.8-million investment will upgrade irrigation systems, and provide a new system

A $1.8-million project is going to improve irrigation in Niagara, for its specialty crops such as grapes and tender fruit.

The Niagara Irrigation Initiative project committee notes climate change has highlighted the need, including a new piped system in Lincoln and west St. Catharines.

There will also be upgrades to the existing system in Niagara on the Lake.

The federal, provincial and local organizations have all contributed to the price tag, in part through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

That is a 5-year, $3.5-billion investment to strengthen Canada's agriculture sector.
