The Falls will light up this evening in recognition of National Indigenous People's Day.
From 9:00 to 9:45 p.m., and from 10:15 p.m. until midnight, the Falls will light up in purple and white.
The colours white and purple represent the colours of the Wampum belts, which is significant to local Indigenous history.
In 1764, wampum strings and belts were exchanged at the Treaties of Niagara councils.
June 21st was selected as National Indigenous People's Day because it's the first day of summer solstice.
