As Ontario drops some COVID-19 health measures today, Niagara Public Health says businesses should keep mandatory vaccination policies in place and require proof of vaccination.
Niagara Region Public Health is urging the public to remain cautious in the face of COVID-19.
The province lifted several pandemic restrictions today, but Public Health says there is still a very high transmission of COVID-19 in the community.
Businesses are encouraged to continue proof of vaccination requirements for customers as well as vaccination policies for staff.
"As Niagara enters a new phase of the pandemic, keeping ourselves safe will heavily depend on the actions of individuals and organizations. Niagara Region Public Health strongly supports those employers who are opting to continue proof-of-vaccination requirements for patrons, as well as mandatory vaccination policies for staff. These organizations are demonstrating their ongoing commitment to the health and safety of their customers, employees and community."
Officials say while some may feel the risks of the virus are acceptable to them, there are still many community members at greater risk.
Meanwhile, Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Mustafa Hirji is urging the province to incorporate booster doses into their proof of vaccination QR code system, for businesses that opt to continue using this measure.
