Council has approved a 4.5 percent increase for waste management.
They also approved a 2.0 percent increase for water and wastewater services.
The approved budgets take effect on January 1st.
Council says the increases are meant to offset financial challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, while funding initiatives such as the creation of a new wastewater treatment plant in Niagara Falls.
For water and wastewater services, the Region will bill local municipalities, who will incorporate the new rates on residents' water bills.
Increases in waste services are expected to cost the average Niagara household an additional $6.88 a year.
