The Niagara Region has hired two new waste collection contractors.
Miller Waste Systems Inc. will be in charge of Niagara Falls, Fort Erie, St. Catharines, Port Colborne, Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake.
GFL Environmental Inc. will take care of Pelham, Thorold, Wainfleet, Grimsby, Lincoln and West Lincoln.
They will both start on Monday October 20, 2020.
That's also when every-other-week garbage collection will come into effect. Recycling and organics will still be collected weekly.
Each municipality will be able to choose their preferred enhanced services. This could containerized garbage collection or additional curbside collection in downtown business areas.
