Niagara-on-the-Lake Town Council has approved an Operating Budget for 2020 and a tax increase for local homeowners.
Council approved a 8.62 percent levy increase, so the average homeowner will have to pay an extra $92 annually on the town's portion of their tax bill.
That's for the average home assessment of $530,000.
Council also approved a 2.48 percent increase to the storm levy.
This means those living in urban areas will also have to pay an extra $4 annually.
The Operating Budget is $12,686,151, which is a 10.14 percent increase when compared to 2019.
The Town says the budget increase is thanks to legal fees, staff salaries, transfer to the capital reserve, and flood mitigation.
