NRP Officer Cleared After Man Hurt

The SIU says this concerned a man who was tasered outside Metro in St. Catharines

A Niagara Regional police officer has been cleared of doing anything wrong after a man's shoulder was hurt during an arrest.

Police were called in September to the Metro on Lakeshore Road in St. Catharines, concerning a disorientated man who had fallen in the store.

He was loaded into an ambulance after a seizure, but telling police he wanted to go home.

Police add he tried to hit an officer twice, walked away toward traffic, and fearing for his safety, police tased him twice.

The man fell to the ground before being handcuffed.

The Special Investigations Unit determined tasing was needed to stop the man from walking into traffic.
