NRP Chief spoke to police services board meeting about domestic violence case in Fort Erie
We're getting update from Niagara's police chief concerning that officer who was seriously hurt in Fort Erie while responding to a domestic violence call.
Bill Fordy says the injuries are significant, but he remains in stable condition.
The chief can't praise officers at the scene on Saturday enough. "The way that they responded to the scene, to provide him with life saving measures, to take the accused into custody, to support his family and support him at the hospital."
He adds everyone from dispatch to office staff are rooting for him.
"Members who went into the car to pull him out, to the investigative teams that are involved. I just want to acknowledge the tremendous work of everyone. I've had several discussions with the member's parents, and they are very thankful to our membership."
A 45-year old Fort Erie man is charged with attempted murder, as well as other charges including 2 counts of spousal threats.
His name is not being released to protect the privacy of the woman involved, and, due to his injuries, police can't say anything further due to the province's Special Investigations Unit looking into this.
