Dr. Lisa Bentley says kids should not eat their Halloween candy late at night.
Halloween is right around the corner, and that means a lot more candy for children and their parents.
Ontario Dental Association President Dr. Lisa Bentley says there are certain treats that can be especially on children's teeth.
"You need to be especially careful with sticky foods like caramel, coffee, chips, and dried fruit, that can cling to the teeth."
Dr. Bentley is advising parents to limit the amount of time kids eat candy, and not to let them eat treats late at night.
"I recommend never letting your children have their snacks late at night before bedtime. At bedtime, your mouth tends to dry out, and you're not producing saliva which protects your teeth. So, if your kids go to bed with sticky food in their teeth, stuck in between the teeth or in the deep grooves, it will cause cavities."
She recommends handing out plain chocolate or sugar free gum.
