Dr. Williams has lifted the emergency order preventing hospitals from performing non-urgent surgeries and procedures.
Hospitals in Ontario will be allowed to resume non-urgent surgeries and procedures.
Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams made the announcement this morning. The news comes as Ontario reported two days in a row of daily cases below 2,000. Hospitalizations and ICU admissions are on the decline as well.
A spokesperson for the Health Ministry notes the change only applies to hospitals that have the capacity for such procedures.
It's estimated that it is going to take the Province about three and a half years to clear the backlog from delaying surgeries.
