The Ontario Medical Association says it's not safe for the province to lift the current lockdown measures.
The OMA recommends the province keep current restrictions in place, in hopes that by the summer, numbers will be down enough to decrease restrictions.
The organization does believe however, that restrictions on outdoor recreational activities like basketball and tennis, need to be lifted in order to improve people's mental and physical well-being.
The OMA says the length the lockdown should be extended to depends on several factors, such as how many people get vaccinated and when.
Earlier this week, Health Minister Christine Elliot hinted te stay at home order would likely be extended past May 20th, but there is no word yet on when an official announcement will be made.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams also says the province needs to see daily new infection rates below 1,000 before restrictions can be loosened.
