Dozens of unopposed candidates running in Ontario's upcoming municipal elections have been automatically elected, including at least 12 in mayor or deputy mayor positions.
Candidates running for positions without any opponents were acclaimed or elected by default yesterday at 4 p.m.
Here in Niagara Falls, Shannon Mitchell and Helga Campbell the only two candidates for Niagara's public school board (DSBN) were acclaimed to their positions.
In Lincoln, Sandra Easton was acclaimed as mayor after challenger Terry Farrell was rejected. Robert Foster was also acclaimed to Regional Council.
In Port Colborne, Fred Davies was acclaimed to Regional Council.
