The NDP quick to comment on the Ford governments 2021 budget
Party leader Andrea Horwath noting "If this were our budget, we would hire more teachers and education workers to help students through this rocky time. We would tackle the backlog of surgeries like the urgent crisis it is. And we would focus on jobs, equity and the she-covery."
The $186 billion dollar budget does include more money for parents, $400 for each school aged child and $500 for a child with special needs.
But it contains no new money for education.
However, it does contain $2 billion more for hospitals, with some of that money going to address the backlog of surgeries, an amount Horwath says falls short of the mark.
The long-term care sector is getting another $650 million this year to maintain and expand staffing levels.
There is also nearly $2 billion in aid for small businesses to help them weather the pandemic.
The government is also creating a $100 million Tourism and Hospitality Small Business Support Grant, giving those businesses one-time payments of up to $20,000
