Fire department says Captain Timothy VanDerWiede died of cancer, related to the job

The town releasing a statement of the sad news that Pelham firefighter Captain Timothy VanDerWeide has died, after battling occupational cancer.
He began working at Station Two in 1990, promoted to Captain in 2007, and served until his death.
The town says he contributed to the design and purchase of fire equipment at Station Two, served on the station rebuild committee, and took part in countless other projects.
The town extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and all who knew him.
