St. Catharines Mayor Mat Siscoe announcing council meeting, public invited to speak
Pelham's mayor does not like the idea of amalgamation, however, he is open to what he calls dramatic change needed at the region.
In a posted video, Marvin Junkin is inviting public feedback, while Regional Chair Bob Gale looks at government change.
He made the case for Pelham on its own. "Which I'm proud to say has resulted in a town that now has money in the bank, a high rate of growth, and a lot of awards to its' credit. All the while being the Pelham community that I know, in which I was born, and raised my family and grandkids."
He says regional change is needed, especially for water and waster water services, and roads.
Over in St. Catharines, the mayor is encouraging his council colleagues to send their thoughts to Chair Bob Gale and Municipal Affairs Minister Rob Flack.
Council was going to discuss this on Monday, but Councillor Robin McPherson voted no, saying the public should be there.
Here's Mayor Mat Siscoe. "I've had this conversation with a number of you... I don't believe we would be able to come to a consensus position at this council. That is my belief, having had conversations with many of you, and recognizing there is a diverse set of opinions around the table."
He says Chair Gale will send all consensus he receives to the provincial government.
The mayor has also announced a special council meeting on Monday, at 6pm, at city hall, to discuss this, and anyone wanting to speak can register to do so. All comments will be sent to Chair Gale and Minister Flack.
