Premier Doug Ford in Niagara Falls to recognize progress on hospital construction
A major milestone at the South Niagara hospital site today, so much so that Premier Doug Ford and his government showed up.
It was to raise the final structural beam.
Mayor Jim Diodati explained the significance, saying it's been signed by the thousands of people who've helped put the hospital together. "Over the past several weeks, vinyl panels have traveled to all of Niagara Health sites, so that all people across the organization could leave their marks. Those signatures have now been fixed to the beam, it'll rise with the names of everyone in the community who came together to build it."
Premier Ford and Health Minister Jones repeated investments are being made, including at the Welland and St. Catharines hospitals.
His government, though, was told Fort Erie pulled back a $3-million contribution, due to the closure of Douglas Memorial urgent care centre.
Health Minister Sylvia Jones responded: "I want to be very clear... when we have expansion of 156 beds in the Niagara region, at the end of the day, in 2028, you will have better service, state of the art facilities."
She added the government is working on 50 other hospitals as well, and investing in medical schools.
