Officers stopped about 400 vehicles during R.I.D.E. checks on Saturday night
Two people are facing impaired driving charges following a pair of R.I.D.E. checks this weekend.
On Saturday night, officers stopped about 400 vehicles in St. Catharines and Niagara Falls.
Around 9:30 p.m., a 53 year old driver informed officers that they had just left a St. Catharines restaurant and had consumed alcohol with dinner.
A breathalyzer test was conducted, which the driver failed.
About two hours later, officers conducting a check in Niagara Falls spotted a Toyota RAV 4 abruptly turning into a parking lot just meters before the check.
Police spoke with the driver and noticed signs of impairment.
Officers say this driver also failed a breathalyzer test.
As well, five other drivers registered an "alert", and had their licenses suspended for three days.
Tickets were also issued for other offences, including:
- Novice driver - blood alcohol concentration above zero
- Drive motor vehicle no currently validated permit
- Drive while child passenger not properly secured
Police say impaired driving causes more deaths in Canada than any other crime.
