Port Colborne Council Could Shrink

Council passed motion recently endorsing 6 councillors and a mayor, as the discussion of amalgamation lingers

With all the talk of amalgamation in Niagara, the City of Port Colborne is working on the size of its council.

Councillor Ron Bodner read a motion at the last meeting that council fully supported, read from a number of options.  "That council endorses a 3-ward structure, and a council composition of 6 councillors, and one mayor, for the City of Port Colborne, as outlined in final option 2."

Currently there are eight councillors and one mayor.

He added they need to talk to the province too.  "That without provincial intervention, the above changes cannot take place until the 2030 election, and request that these changes be implemented for the 2026 election."

The City of Welland has been tossing around ideas, but still stands at 12 councillors and mayor.
