A ground penetrating radar search discovers more than fifty unmarked graves on the sites of two former residential schools in Saskatchewan.
Fifty-four possible unmarked graves have been found at the sites of two former residential schools in Saskatchewan near Kamsack.
Keeseekoose First Nation officials telling reporters earlier today that forty-two were found at the former Fort Pelly School, and the rest were found at St. Philip's Residential School.
The possible gravesites were detected during a recent radar search.
The schools were operated by the Catholic Church in the early 1900s.
The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation says there are records of two student deaths at each school.
The Centre also notes St. Philip's had a widespread problem with physical and sexual abuse, which led to the dismissal of a school supervisor.
