Premier Doug Ford is criticizing Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff over his alliance with the National Campus Life Network.
Oosterhoff, who is the Parliamentary Assistant to Education Minister Stephen Lecce, is scheduled to speak at the "Gen Z: Challenging Abortion in Politics" event this Wednesday.
Last month, the group's Twitter page stated that "Making abortions an ‘early priority’ is the same as Hitler who made it an early priority to kill the Jews."
Premier Doug Ford was asked about the MPP's connection to the group, saying that he would be speaking with Oosterhoff tonight.
"Everyone has the right to believe in what they want. I'm not one to dictate anyone's belief, but what I don't believe in, to compare abortion to the Holocaust, that's just wrong."
Oosterhoff has spoken in defense of the event.
“I don’t think anyone is surprised to know that I am pro-life. I have always been very clear where I stand when it comes to protecting the right to life.”
However, he is critical of the tweet.
“While I respect everyone’s right to hold and express their personal views, I don’t believe anything should be compared to the horror of the Holocaust.”
Ford's entire response can be heard below.
