New measures announced to address staffing shortages in Ontario's hospitals.
The Ontario government has announced some measures to help bring more healthcare workers to the province.
Effective immediately, internationally educated nurses will be allowed to practice in Ontario while they work towards full registration.
The college will also have more flexibility in allowing retiring or non-practicing nurses to return to the field.
As well, starting next year, health regulatory colleges will not be allowed to require Canadian work experience for registration purposes.
In addition, starting January 1st, health regulatory colleges will be required to impose time limits to make registration decisions
Health Minister Sylvia Jones says the changes are being made in order to help stabilize health care in Ontario.
