Housing Minister says the money will built units for Riordan Street and Geneva Street
More provincial funding for St. Catharines to build more housing units.
Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Paul Calandra joined Mayor Mat Siscoe, to announce over $6.1-million to help create 65 units.
$2.6-million will be for 50 trailer units for emergency shelter on Riordan Street.
That temporary site, giving year round shelter, provides support for mental and physical health, substance use, as well as community services nearby.
There's also $3.5-million for 15 housing units on Geneva Street, a new 4-story building.
It provides services including training in daily living skills.
Yesterday Welland city council announced a shelter was being built on Ontario Road, with help from the region.
