Pledge comes following Earth Day meeting of the Great Lakes Guardians' Council
Ontario Environment Minister Jeff Yurek says each year the province invests approximately $14 million in protection and restorations projects on our lakes including the Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup.
This year in response to the pandemic, the province will be investing $12 million in a new initiative to detect the COVID virus in wastewater, which will enhance the ability of local public health units to identify, monitor and manage potential outbreaks.
Yurek pointing out 99 per cent of Ontarians live in the Great Lakes basin.
