Pickering to be compensated too
Ontario's housing minister says Grimsby and Pickering will get money back for costs associated with the removal of Greenbelt land.
Last month, Premier Doug Ford backed out of plans to remove 15 parcels of land from the Greenbelt to build more homes.
While the government has started the process to return land that was removed, Pickering and Grimsby say they spent a lot of time and money to bring the original plans to life.
Pickering claims to have spent $360,135, and Grimsby says it spent $82,000.
The municipalities say the costs include legal and consulting work, as well as the time staff spent on work related to the plans.
Housing Minister Paul Calandra initially suggested the money would not be returned, but he now says the province will help pick up the tab.
He adds the costs they are submitting will be reviewed.
