Premier Doug Ford would like more boots on the ground to help in the battle against COVID-19.
“We recently passed an emergency order to allow education workers including custodians, cleaners, education assistants, social workers and administrative staff to volunteer in the fight against COVID-19.”
He says they will be deployed to long-term care homes, homeless shelters and other congregate settings in Niagara and beyond.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce says it’s all voluntary.
“This week the government will be launching a portal for education workers to submit their interests in concert with their local board. The portal will match their skill set with opportunities within their communities.”
The program is geared towards those who may not be involved in online learning.
