The smell began last week after people living in the Port Weller area noticed a strong foul odor
The Niagara Region is apologizing to residents living near the Port Weller wastewater treatment facility.
In a statement, the Region says a temporary mechanical failure is causing the unusually strong smell.
The Region assures residents that the smell does not pose a health risk and that all monitoring systems are active and compliant with health and environmental safety standards, and wastewater is being treated normally.
The Region says replacement parts are on order, but no timeline for a fix was given.
