Fire Chief says two burn notices in a year will hit you in the pocketbook
The Fort Erie Fire Department reminding residents and visitors that backyard bonfires are only allowed between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Fire Chief Ed Melanson says the open air burning bylaw in the town is fair and allows for recreational campfires that don’t negatively impact neighbours.
He says the purpose of the bylaw is to reduce complaints which helps keep fire crews available for other calls.
Any resident who gets a second Burn Notice within a 12 month period could end up paying $488 for each responding fire vehicle for the first hour and $244 per responding fire vehicle for each half hour after that.
