Federal and provincial governments providing over $11-million to CHAR Technologies
A massive federal and provincial investment of over $11.3-million to expand CHAR Technologies in Thorold.
Ontario Minister of Natural Resources Graydon Smith announced this morning the $6.4-million from the province will help the plant divert wood waste into renewable natural gas.
"And once operational, it will deliver enough renewable natural gas to heat about 5,500 homes a year. It'll also deliver biocarbon to Ontario's heavy industries to use as a fuel alternative, and reduce their reliance on coal," he says.
The government adds by expanding the Thorold plant, close to 40 new jobs will be created, as well as 20 construction jobs.
"CHAR Technology will directly reduce Ontario's greenhouse gas emissions by up to 30,000 tonnes a year. And diverting mill by-products from landfill the project will further avoid and reduce indirect emissions by as much as 30,000 tonnes annually."
The Minister says that reduction is equal to taking 18,000 cars off Ontario roads each year.
