St. Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik was quite happy to hear about the tentative deal between Unifor and GM.
It includes a $109-million investment towards transmission and engine production at the St. Catharines Plant.
Sendzik says this means the Glendale Ave facility will continue to be one of GM's most efficient and productive plants in North America.
"Today is not just great news for the more than 1,000 GM workers and their families in our community, it is also a strong signal that St. Catharines is an important part of a global company that continues to grow and adapt in a rapidly changing auto industry."
Sendzik says the announcement also builds on the $28-million energy cogeneration project at the plant, which is a partnership with Walker Industries.
