NRP say they are investigating 11 other similar incidents
Police searching for a suspect in a Grandparents scam that cost a 76 year old Niagara Falls woman thousands of dollars.
Police say the victim received a call on February 2nd from a male who said Hi Grandma and told her he was in a friend's car that had been stopped by police.
An alleged search of the vehicle resulted in a drug bust and the arrest of both the friend and the fake grandson.
The fraudster then said he needed $12,000 to get out of jail and "Officer Henderson" would arrange a courier to pick it up at Grandma's house in the city's north end.
The victim went to a bank took out $11,000, all the money she had, and then handed it over when a man showed up at her door.
Police are searching for a suspect 25 to 30 years of age, about 5'10" with a thin build wearing a white long jacket.
Detectives are also investigating 11 other similar incidents that have occurred in Niagara since February 2nd
To date victims have had more than $70,000 stolen.
Police say there has also been an additional $24,000 attempts where the victims realized it was a scam and didn’t send money.
